Smoke On THe Mountain Homecoming

Co-Directed by Jerry Parker and Sheilah O'Heaney

Mount Pleasant Baptist Church welcomes you to bid the Rev. Mervin Oglethorpe and his family happy trails at the next Saturday Night Gospel Sing, with the returning Sanders Family Singers as featured guests.

Fortunately, you don't have to travel all the way to North Carolina to take part in the toe-tapping as the Cherokee Civic Theatre in Rusk presents Smoke on the Mountain Homecoming, the third and last episode in the trilogy.

Smoke III takes place October 1945, as the second world war has ended and America's starting to prosper again. The Sanders family is back on the road and visiting one of their favorite churches, the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant, North Carolina – home of the Mount Pleasant Pickle Factory. The Sanders family is complete again, and growing, this time around - Dennis is back from World War II, his twin sister Denise is mother of two twins of her own and his sister June, who's married to Mervin, is eight months pregnant with their first child. The church is growing as well, as Mervin has been called to preach in Texas (he's already got the 10 gallon hat), June's brother Dennis is taking over as Mount Pleasant's pastor.
