The Trip To Bountiful

"The Trip to Bountiful" ran 3 dates in April 1991. This play followed an aging widow, as she makes a determined escape from the cramped Houston apartment she shares with her over protective son and her bossy daughter-in-law, to return to her beloved hometown of Bountiful one final time before she dies. During the final performance, a Sunday Matinee, severe storms rolled into Rusk, which had hail hitting the roof and tornadoes touching down nearby. Many audience members initially thought the tornado sirens were part of the play, but it kept sounding. Some nervous audience members then began to leave seeking alternative shelter or to get a hold of loved ones while the play continued for a bit. After taking a long intermission the play did conclude, and audiences all forgot the storm.
